Somchanh Baccam, Emeritus Faculty

Somchanh Baccam is the longest serving teacher in Cedar Valley Montessori School history. She taught at the school for 39 years, reaching thousands of children in the Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas. She retired from teaching and CVMS in 2018.

Somchanh is beloved for her quiet manner, the ease with which she connects with children, and her ability to teach each child as an individual. It is a frequent occurrence that CVMS graduates return to visit Somchanh on a regular basis.

Somchanh finished French School in Laos in 1972. In 1976 she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Coe College. The aspects of CVMS that Somchanh most loves are the urban environment in which the school is located, the staff, and the friendly parents and children with whom she gets to teach. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, and along with her husband, enjoys visiting their two sons and two daughters, as well as seven grandchildren.
