Families are able to select whether sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Families are encouraged to choose the timeframe that best fits their schedule and the child’s needs.
Children Ages 3-6
The Primary Program is a five-day-a-week, Montessori program for children ages three- to six-years-old.
The Primary Program provides an enriching developmental experience in an environment that encourages personal respect and responsible freedom. Our classes also offer socialization and formal learning experiences for the very young child. Fine and gross motor coordination activities, singing, stories, learning units and manipulation materials keep the child happy, busy and stimulated.
There are three options for the Primary Program:
Monday – Friday | 8:30am – 11:30am
Children are eligible for the Morning Program when they turn three-years-old. Wraparound childcare is available to Morning Only students.
Monday – Friday | 8:30am – 2:30pm
Children are eligible for the Extended Day program when they turn three. CVMS offers this program for the three- to six-year-old child who enjoys a longer work period to extend morning activities. The longer day provides an opportunity for in-depth pursuit of core subject areas and for encouraging the child’s own interests and curiosity. All children in the Extended Day program will be with the same classroom and teachers, morning and afternoon. Extended Day may also be used as a Kindergarten option for children in their third year at CVMS.
Monday – Friday | 7:30am – 6pm
Children ages three to six who are enrolled in either the Morning Only or Extended Day are eligible for the Full Day program. CVMS offers the Full Day program for families who are interested in taking advantage of a school day that begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. The Full Day program includes three Montessori work cycles lead by a Lead Directress, Directress and Assistant.
Children Ages 6+
The Cypress Program is a traditional Kindergarten year for a child who chose to complete an AK year. These children are six and entering what Dr. Maria Montessori refers to as the second plane of development. The Cypress Program is more abstract and encompasses the 5 Great Lessons. This series of five imaginative stories gives students an overall impression of the grand topics of the universe, the earth, and life on earth. Children involved in the Cypress Program also participate in off-site excursions to downtown arts, music and cultural venues and Cedar Rapids-area educational facilities.
