Community is the foundation of CVMS and parent involvement is a cornerstone of our school’s success.
Parents or family members who are interested in volunteering have the opportunity to become involved in one or more of the following opportunities listed below. Volunteer schedules are also posted on the volunteer board in the CVMS atrium. Background checks and fingerprinting are required for all CVMS volunteers and are facilitated yearly.
Curriculum Support – These individuals will assist in the creation of materials for the classroom.
Cooking with Kids – The kitchen can be a fun place to learn! This program allows the children to learn how to prepare their own snacks. Recipes, materials, and supplies will be provided. The program is scheduled one week each month. Each classroom “cooks” on a different day. The volunteer will set up the “assembly line”, assist two children at a time in making their snack, and then clean up the area and supplies.
Lunch Assistants – A few children from each classroom eat lunch in the atrium. This is a VERY important role that needs filled daily from 11:15 am-12:15 pm. The tasks include:
- Reinforcement of grace and courtesy concepts
- Pouring milk, opening fruit cups, and yogurts, etc.
- Providing additional supervision during lunch time
- Assisting with lunch clean-up
Reading Partners – Learning to read takes a lot of practice. We need people available for one hour in the morning and the afternoon to work with our children on their reading. This involves listening to them as they read and helping out as they get stuck. Reading times are available daily.
