CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) — Cedar Rapids schools are working with the Cedar Valley Montessori School to explore opening a Montessori elementary magnet school.

A Montessori school teaches students through individualized education.

The two side are trying to identify funding for the school that would be located in downtown Cedar Rapids.

“The Cedar Rapids Community School District values both CVMS’s expertise in delivering a quality Montessori school experience and recognizes CVMS as a valuable asset for our community,” said Dr. Trace Pickering, associate superintendent.

“The CVMS is interested in helping the community expand opportunities for students to engage in the Montessori philosophy. The intent of the collaboration is to build a mutually beneficial and community-enhancing elementary Montessori program,” said Stacy Cataldo, CVMS head of school.

The school district said development of the school is dependent on federal grant money that will be announced in October.
