Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Cedar Valley Montessori School (CVMS) children will join the international effort “Sing for Peace” on Wednesday, September 21 to celebrate the International Day of Peace. The effort includes 24 hours of singing the song “Light a Candle for Peace” by children across the planet. More than 120 CVMS students will sing at 10:00 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to teach the interconnectedness of the world,” said Stacy Cataldo, head of school at CVMS. “Our children understand that they are singing the same song that children in Japan, the Netherlands and Australia will also be singing. The children have been practicing the song since the start of school and are eager to perform.”

The singing will commence on the shores of New Zealand and continue from country to country until it reaches the shores of the Hawaiian Islands 24 hours later. This year, it is estimated that nearly 99,000 children will “Sing for Peace” from some 35 different countries.
